01The question
Small business sites rarely fail all at once. They accrete — a new page here, a promo banner there, three fonts later nobody remembers choosing. The question: when a site has five voices, how do you find the one that is actually the brand?
02What we looked at
- The existing site page by page: which elements repeated, which contradicted, which the owner was proud of.
- The brand’s own strongest artifact — in this case commissioned 3D splash artwork — as a candidate seed for the whole direction.
- How far a single distinctive texture (rustic, sun-worn, vintage) can stretch across menu, story, and contact pages before it thins out.
03Findings
- The strongest existing asset is usually the direction. Brands rarely need something new invented; they need their best thing amplified and everything else removed.
- Rewriting every page in one voice does more for perceived quality than any layout change.
- Keep the facts, lose the clutter: content resets fail when they discard information customers actually need (hours, address, menu).
04How it shaped the build
The Baja Beans reset grew the entire site out of the brand’s own splash artwork — rustic, vintage, warm — and every page was rewritten fresh in that single voice. The facts stayed; the noise went.
